Clearblue Ovulation Test
CLEARBLU OVULATION TEST - THE BEST OF ITS KIND
WHY THE CLEARBLU OVULATION TEST IS RECOMMENDED BY THE MY SEXUAL HEALTH DOCTORS:
"The Clearblue Digital Ovulation Test identifies the fertile window of the menstrual cycle by monitoring TWO DIFFERENT hormones in the urine: estrone-3-glucuronide (E3G) and luteinizing hormone (LH). Most other tests only identify LH. By measuring these two hormones, the Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation Test is the only ovulation test that accurately detects the timing of a wider fertile period of typically 4 days - that's 2 more than other ovulation tests.
It is therefore both ideal for people who are trying to fall pregnant and for people who are using natural family planning options to avoid the fertile window."
HOW DOES THE CLEARBLUE DIGITAL OVULATION TEST WORK?
Conception is most likely to occur when intercourse takes place on the day before, or day of ovulation, and detection of the LH surge is a precise measure for the timing of ovulation. However, conception is possible when intercourse takes place throughout the fertile window.
Research has shown that regular intercourse during the entire fertile period is more likely to lead to pregnancy than intercourse at peak fertility alone. The more sex you have during your fertile period, the greater your chances of falling pregnant.
The Clearblue Advanced Digital Ovulation Test:
Typically identifies 4 fertile days - 2 more than other ovulation tests - to maximize a woman's chances of conception.
Is the only ovulation test that accurately tracks the changing levels of 2 key urinary hormone metabolites - E3G and LH.
Is the only ovulation test that can adapt to a woman's personal cycle every time she uses it with its unique, smart algorithm.
It incorporates the latest fertility monitoring technology, which is more than 99% accurate at detecting the LH surge.
It's the only digital ovulation test brand with an unmistakable smiley face result.
Remember: Each menstrual cycle has a unique hormone profile. The test holder contains a sophisticated algorithm that adapts to a woman's individual hormone levels in order to accurately identify her fertile window.
Each box contains 10 tests - it is more than enough for one month, but once you know your cycle better, it may last you two months. It is more expensive than other ovulation tests, but much cheaper than formal fertility treatment!
WHY THE MY SEXUAL HEALTH DOCTORS SUGGEST USING THE CLEARBLU OVULATION TESTS:
"We find that when patients approach us about fertility, they are already at a stage where they want to micro-manage things.
Our advice to women under the age of 30 is usually to just stop their contraception, get their baseline tests done, make sure their vaccination schedule is up to date, take their folic acid daily, preferably stop drinking alcohol, have regular intercourse and forget about falling pregnant for the first year. In at least 80% of couples, they will become pregnant before the year is over and we only see them after their babies are born.
The problem comes in for those that are over 30 and past their fertility peak (although many women are having babies over the age of 40 now), women that are not pregnant after one year of regular intercourse and those that know beforehand that they will not be able to "forget about falling pregnant". Once they have made the decision that they are ready to start a family, they simply can't get it out of their minds and every month when their cycle starts again, it is an absolute disappointment. In all of these cases, we suggest that patients monitor their cycles very carefully and do ovulation tests. We recommend using the app "Fertility Friend" because it is both patient and doctor friendly, but any method of recording the details of your cycle is fine - from old-school diaries to Excel spreadsheets - we have seen and used them all!"
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE USED A WHOLE PACK OF OVULATION TESTS AND YOU DID NOT GET ONE POSITIVE OR SMILEY FACE:
First, go over your cycle history and make sure you are testing around 14 days BEFORE your NEXT cycle should start. That is when you usually ovulate. If it is still negative, see a doctor who will probably start with a day 21 Progesterone test to see if you did in fact ovulate or not.
Secondly, if your cycle is less than 25 days or longer than 35 days, it is very unlikely that you are ovulating. See a doctor immediately. You will probably need medication or serious lifestyle modifications in order to ovulate.
WHERE SHOULD I GO IF THINK I HAVE FERTILITY PROBLEMS?The My Sexual Health doctors, like many other GPs and gynaecologists, can do the basic investigations to determine whether there are any treatable causes for your infertility. We check hormones, do sperm counts, look for other medical conditions, check for infections, give advice about timing and products to use and do physical examinations.
If you have had these baseline investigations and nothing has been found, or if you have been diagnosed with a condition known to cause infertility such as endometriosis, PCOS, blocked tubes and anatomical abnormalities, we suggest that you go straight to a fertility specialist.
A special note from the My Sexual Health Doctors: "There is a difference between true fertility specialists and gynaecologists with an interest in fertility. In South Africa, the My Sexual Health doctors have a trusted relationship with Vitalab (www.vitalab.com) in Sandton, particularly Dr. Stephan Volschenk. Prof. Kruger in Cape Town and MedFem in Sandton also have excellent reputations. In our experience, the process of fertility treatment is so expensive and emotionally taxing, that it is advisable to use a facility with state of the art equipment and the best trained doctors.
